Our Story

Skyhook Structural Engineering, P.C. (SSE) was founded by William O’Donnell in July 1999.  SSE currently has a staff of 4 professional engineers with licenses in 28 states.  Our office is located in Brentwood, Tennessee.

SSE has assembled a close team of experienced professional engineers.  Each project is assigned to a project engineer that serves as a point of contact and is responsible for all aspects of the project design, construction document production, and construction administration.  Our office environment facilitates communication among staff members and clients, including the discussion of design solutions and the sharing of ideas.   This approach allows SSE to maintain a high level of quality control and client service.  Our efficient and experienced staff enables SSE to provide structural engineering services for construction projects totaling more than $100 million annually.

SSE’s professional staff has experience in a broad range of buildings and structures.  We have designed healthcare facilities, office buildings, parking garages, multi-family residential, mixed-use facilities, retail buildings, bridges, pavilions, hotels, churches, educational buildings, and water and wastewater structures. We have experience in renovations and investigative projects and have worked with all types of delivery methods, including design-build.  Many projects have required the early release of structural documents to facilitate “fast-track” construction, which has become a popular delivery method.

SSE strives to provide economical, practical, constructible solutions to structural problems.  SSE is committed to working with our clients to provide creative, yet cost-effective, solutions to the structural design challenges required for both the typical and the unique elements of the architectural design.

Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED)

SSE has designed a number of LEED certified buildings and incorporates sustainable design elements into all of our projects.  SSE has collaborated with our clients   and other members of the design team to  develop better exterior wall details that reduce thermal bridging.  We actively promote the consideration of alternative exterior wall  systems such as composite precast concrete wall panels, Structural Insulated Panels (SIPS), and   Insulated Concrete Forms (ICF) that reduce a building’s energy consumption and increase indoor air quality.

Building Information Modeling (BIM)

SSE currently uses Revit Structure software on projects with our clients that are using BIM software for design and drawing production.
